It's Tough Being a Mom

Wednesday was a horrible day. I picked Ally up from school and took her to the dentist for a 2:00 appt. to get her 2 6 yr. molars sealed or I thought it was 2:00. I wasn't actually supposed to be there until 2:45 and they were running behind so they said to come back at 3:00. All day I begged Shane to come with me just in case Ally didn't do well. So, he of course showed up at 2 and we all went home. He had 2 appointments so I just knew he wouldn't be able to come. She didn't get seen until 3:25 and thankfully Shane got to be in there with her and I took Chase to the waiting room. She wasn't back there 10 minutes before Shane came and got me. The dentist said she had the deepest grooves in her molars. He explained that it was developmental and even the best brushers wouldn't be able to get into those grooves. She had a small sticky spot that needed to be filled before the sealant went over it.
Back up a little bit. We have been seeing an orthodontist because Ally had a pretty bad underbite. The first time we seen him she hadn't lost any teeth so he needed to see her again in 6 months. We went back when she lost her two bottom front teeth. We got great news from him that her permanent teeth may correct the underbite. But that we needed to go to the dentist to have 2 more baby teeth pulled to know for sure.
I called the dentist and we agreed to wait a few months to see if they would fall out on their own. So, because they had to numb her with shots of novacaine on one side he said lets just take the tooth out too. It was all a little, ok A LOT overwhelming and I burst into tears and ran out so Ally wouldn't see me upset. Shane handed me Chase and he went back. O.K. So I realize now that it wasn't that big of a deal but for someone like me that likes to be "in the know" it was devastating. I was not mentally or financially prepared for this. The thing that upset me the most was I told Ally how fun getting her teeth painted would be and that it wouldn't hurt at all. Mommy lied. I'm so thankful that Shane got to go. He said I wouldn't have done well at all.
So, Ally came home with one missing baby tooth and one sealed molar. I took her for a ride and I told her I was sorry that it hurt even though mommy said it wouldn't. She said, "it's ok mom, Dr. Bill put my teeth to sleep." We have to go back soon for the other side soon.
If you are still reading which I highly doubt, I say all of that to say, things won't always go the way we think they should. I am learning to let go and let the One that has my best interest at heart take over.

You are such a great mommy! Ally has been blessed beyond measure to have you as her mom and she knows that you will always protect her. Love ya!
